Sketch a day

Struggling to focus in early 2012, I've set myself the challenge over a few weeks to create and post a sketch a day on paper, 29.7x42cm.
They will all be available at $80 a pop (free postage within Australia), first in best dressed. All works as always are 100% original Kearnsys ;)
To purchase a work you can email me at jameskearns09@hotmail.com or via facebook www.facebook.com/kearnsyart

After watching too many docos today, I've sketched the Kongo Mountain Gorilla. Enjoy.

Sketching

Self portrait sketch in beret. Nothing too precious, just decided to sit in front of the mirror and get my sketch on. Was nice to get pencil to paper after a long New Year break.

RIP Mikey Welsh

I was saddened to hear of the death of a very interesting and complex young artist that I had become relatively friendly with via the internet. Here is a bit of a tribute video I came across. I will be honest and say that I was very curious to find out the nature of his death because he often posted some pretty disturbing thoughts etc on facebook. Unfortunately, I was not surprised to hear it was suicide.

"On October 8, 2011, Welsh's Facebook page announced that he had "passed away unexpectedly", with a memorial image attached. It was later announced that Welsh had been found dead in a hotel room in Chicago, from a suspected drug overdose leading to a heart attack. He had posted on Twitter on September 26, 2011, "dreamt i died in chicago next weekend (heart attack in my sleep). need to write my will today"followed by "correction - the weekend after next". There has been discussion of whether his prediction was a self-fulfilling prophecy"- Wikipedia. More info here

Blast from the past

So nice to stumble upon a painting that was bought earlier this year.
"Mother", sitting nicely in her new home.

Pop up show in Sydney

Hi all, I'm looking at having a pop up art show of my own work in Paddington on the 17th December in the afternoon. Will keep you posted.
If you haven't already, check out some new works on my facebook page here. Oh also on there is some cool photos from the other night with some top Aussie artists checking out my work in the studio. Incase you don't know, Luke Sciberras is the guy in the middle (the next John Olsen) and Carlos Barrios is the one on the right, who is keen to exhibit with me in the new year, which would blow my mind.

I've opened up a Gallery in Mudgee!

I will certainly be posting lots of pics of my awesome studio/gallery.
Basically, I'm trialing it til at least January. There is just such a huge need  for a contemporary space here.
After my opening this weekend I'll be on the look out for some amazing artists to exhibit in my space.
Anyway, If you're in the area, I'd love you to pop in. Cheers.

This Is Not Art

Had an awesome weekend and few days in Newcastle. I had a painting feature in the annual event 'This is not art' (TINA) at The Woods Gallery, so I decided to go and check out the scene. I was absolutely blown away by the energy and atmosphere of the place. It was sickkk! and had the best nights out! The opening night there was bands and parades on the street and heaps of us drinking longnecks and free wine from all the exhibitions. One night we ended up at some abandoned warehouse with music pumping out of it and shit loads of people getting loose. Anyway, it's late and I've gotta be up early to play a full day of Rugby 7's. What a contradiction my life is.

Oh, I took heaps of photos but can't find my camera so here's the painting in the exhibition and a LINK to some pics.

I'm still alive

Hello blog readers. Sorry I haven't kept to my regular posting lately, it's just been really hectic here. Mainly due to the reason it's September - Finals footy time. Best time of the year. Unfortunately my teams have gone down in all the finals, including the Rugby side I play in - Mudgee Wombats. Still recovering from drowning our sorrows.
However, I have been painting quite a bit. Below is a large painting I finished the other day that I really love and not surprisingly, sold the next day.
